Antique Snider-Enfield Mark II*, 3-Band Rifle,.577 Snider, Used

An antique British Snider-Enfield Mark II* in .577 Snider. This rifle has a very good bore for a Snider, overall shiny with sharp rifling and some pits. There is a chip missing from the forestock behind the nose cap, otherwise the stock is solid with a clear Enfield cartouche. The lock plate is marked "1862 Enfield." Some of the finish retains its original blue, while some has gone to a patina. The bluing under the wood is intact.

When the Snider-Enfield conversion was standardized in the British military, Canadian-based regiments were among the first overseas units to receive the Snider, to counter the perceived threat from the U.S. The Snider remained in service in some rural Canadian militia regiments until the early 1900s. More information about the Snider is available here.

This rifle is a used firearm in NRA Antique Very Good condition.

NRA ANTIQUE VERY GOOD: All original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised; bore disregarded for collectors firearms.
